About Us

We are a group of people living within a twenty mile radius of Bromley and Orpington, who for one reason or another, find ourselves on our own. Our age range is from 50 upwards.

The Club is a non-profit making club with events run by the members for the members and their guests – who soon become members themselves – enjoying the company of like-minded people.  MGR has a wide and varied monthly programme of events like i.e. pub nights, holidays, rambles, walks, dining out, concerts, parties and barbecues, discos, theatre, badminton, tennis, golf and ceroc, to name a few.

The list is endless – but what a great way to make new friends and acquaintances, to share common interests and participate in or start new activities and, through friendship, help each other.

Over the years, many of our members have met life-long friends within the Club and some even got married, or have become partners, but still remain members of the Club.

What is our aim?

To provide opportunities for members to get out and about, make friends and acquaintances, to have some fun sharing interests, maybe also help them to start some new activities with others

How is the club run?

By a committee (elected at an Annual General Meeting) consisting of seven members. The committee then elects its own Chairperson. Each month a comprehensive programme of social events is planned by the committee, mainly of submissions by the members, often via a sub-committee member and circulated to all members by a monthly programme.

History of MGR Social Club

MGR Social Club was founded by Dave Simmons, back in 1973, when he saw the need for a social club for single people (i.e. single by virtue of being unmarried, bereaved or divorced) and was started with ten members all from professional backgrounds.

The idea being to have a wide range of interests centred around the Bromley/Orpington area but stretching out to Beckenham, Welling, Bexleyheath, Dartford, Biggin Hill, Westerham, Sevenoaks and southeast suburbs in between.

With around 300 members, which include 7 committee members (a far cry from the 10 members back in 1973) MGR is undoubtedly the most successful social club for unattached people in your area.
